North Fork Hotels, Motels, Inns, & Resorts on Eastern Long Island, NY

Hotels, Motels, Inns, & Resorts

There are few "chain" hotels on the North Fork. These maintain the degree of hospitality, cost, and ambience for which the corporations are known. Far more motels/hotels/inns are privately owned. Those listed below have been personally visited by North Fork Weddings.

Best Western East End
Route 25
Riverhead, NY 11901
(631) 369-2200
www.bestwesterneastend.com

When you want to the comfort and conveniences of a noted hotel chain, but the charm of a local and privately owned lodging establishment, this hotel is just the spot. Totally remodeled under the new ownership, the hotel features beautifully appointed rooms decorated with the charm and style of the East End. Many have Jacuzzis and all are equipped with the most up to date amenities. It is located right next to Tanger Mall and is minutes off Exit 72 on the LIE. The hotel has conference rooms, a restaurant, an elegant ballroom, gardens and an outdoor swimming pool. Riverhead is the Gateway to the East End so that guests can visit both North Fork Wine Country and The Hamptons with equal ease.

The Blue
7850 Main Road
East Marion, NY 11939
(631) 477-0907
www.bluedolphinresort.com

The Blue may well be the most fun of any lodging establishment on the North Fork. All rooms are charming and have small kitchen facilities so that you can chill that bottle of local wine and make your own breakfast if you wish. Some rooms have Jacuzzis, suites can accommodate families, and there are even some private cottages available. Outdoors there is a great pool with comfortable lounge chairs, a volley ball court, a playground area, and shade providing trees. The café serves up casual fare and music is provided at the outdoor pavilion nights on weekends. Want still more? How about some spa treatments at the newly added full service spa center? Massages, facials, body treatments and more are available right on premises. The Blue permits pets in some rooms and there are even a few smoking rooms available. The Blue is a great choice for a vacation or weekend getaway for couples, families, and groups. (See Venues)

Cliffside Resort Condominiums on the Sound at Greenport
61475 Route 48
Greenport, NY 11944
(800) 269-4140 or (631) 477-1818
www.TheCliffsideResort.com

This brand new condo resort is stupendously located on the North Fork of L.I, and is one of only a handful of places with water views. The sunset views are not be outdone anywhere in the world. Not only is the resort new, but this concept is rare on the East End which has mostly small motels/hotels and B&B's. Short of owning your own place or renting a house for the season, this is a very comfortable, convenient, and luxurious way to spend time out east. All condos are two bedroom/ two bath, sleep 6, have flat screen tv's, full kitchenettes (even a wine chiller!) and wi-fi. There's a heated swimming pool and laundry facilities on site and if you have a large group or family, it offers multi unit special pricing. It is located only minutes from the Village of Greenport and the Shelter Island Ferry providing traffic free access to the Hamptons. I found the pricing surprisingly affordable so if you plan a visit this summer, you may be one of the resort's first guests!

Dreamer's Cove Inn
15 Bay Avenue
Aquebogue, NY 11931
(631) 722-3212
www.DreamersCoveInn.com

If your idea of a fun weekend on the North Fork is to sip some Long Island wine while sitting in your comfortable room overlooking Peconic Bay, Dreamer's Cove Inn may be the answer.  Every single room is waterview!  Kayaks are available for use right on the inn's private beach and a wide sprawling lawn is ideal for BBQ's, weddings (it can hold a huge tent), frisbee, or just searching for four leaf clovers.  A casual beachy atmosphere prevails with all rooms having beautiful light oak floors, wide windows to allow for sublime viewing, and even kitchens/kitchenettes.  This is the perfect spot for groups to get away as the sixteen rooms all not only look out on the water, but are all on the same level.  Imagine the fun the kids, your fraternity/sorority friends, or your wedding guests can have here.  The inn is under new ownership and management and the manager Chris was raised out east.  (He's also an veteran of Iraq.)  The rooms are large and some are especially romantic.  Do remember that this is a beach side inn and has that a seaside feel, not a Victorian B&B feel.  It is very conveniently located near all the wineries and is only about 15 minutes from the last exit off LIE.  If you want to hold a party, Chris will be glad to help you make it a really fabulous event.  (See Venues)

Harborfront Inn at Greenport
209 Front Street
Greenport, NY 11944
(631) 477-0707
www.theharborfrontinn.com

The Harborfront Inn is a 21st century luxury hotel smack dab in the middle of a Norman Rockwell scene. The counterpoint of modern design in the lobby with its dark wooden floors and unique architectural details against the delightfully small town ambience complete with a carousel in the park and ships in the harbor balances perfectly. All rooms are spacious and have such amenities as Frette™ linens, flat screen televisions, CD stereo systems, high-speed internet access and massaging body sprays in the showers. (The bathrooms are just amazing, especially the Terrace Suite with its Jacuzzi tub!) The suites are truly magnificent, the largest having its own private 900-square-foot deck overlooking Mitchell Park, Greenport Harbor and Shelter Island. I just can't imagine a more romantic spot for a bride and groom. Many of the 35 rooms have similar views that are gorgeous by day or night. Every attention to your comfort and pleasure has been given: complimentary continental breakfast in the lobby in front of a fireplace and curved bar, local art in the hallways, lobby and guest rooms, a fitness center and inviting furniture. The hotel has been featured in many national publications and has received accolades from everywhere. It is convenient to all wineries, restaurants, shops, ferries, trains and buses. Truly a luxury, it is one you can't afford to miss.

Holiday Inn Express East End
1707 Old Country Road
Riverhead, NY 11901
(631) 548-1000
www.hieeastend.com

The only thing express about this hotel is the staff's surefire ability to tend to all your comforts fast! Its 89 rooms are beautifully appointed in a décor that is far from "chain hotel" style. Each room is bright, airy, modern, comfortable, and totally captures the style of the East End. Leisure travelers to the East End find themselves perfectly situated to explore the entire East End. One day can be spent in North Fork Wine Country and another in the trendy Hamptons, and still another at Tanger Outlet Malls right down the road. Business travelers have all the modern amenities they need, including internet access from each room. You can't beat this hotel for convenience and comfort.

The Inn at Baron's Cove
31 Water Street
Sag Harbor, NY 11963
(631) 725-2100
www.baronscove.com

Location, location, location! Sag Harbor is a picturesque and historic whaling town, and The Inn at Baron's Cove sits right on the harbor. It is within walking distance to shops, museums and theaters, is a ferry ride away from North Fork Wineries and is only a short drive to Montauk Point. The spacious rooms equipped with kitchenettes are comfortable and have unique configuratins with the loft rooms accommodating up to five people. For thirty five years the Inn at Baon's Cove has provided consistently hospitable and affordable lodging for visitors to the East End. There are many mid week specials and packages so be sure to visit the website or call for information. It's a great value for families, business travelers and groups whether in or off high season.

Jedediah Hawkins Inn
400 South Jamesport Avenue
South Jamesport, NY 11947
(631) 722-2900
www.JedediahHawkinsInn.com

Fierce local pride and a pure vision inspired the restoration of the Jedediah Hawkins Inn, which now, after its brief stint as a Designer Show House, is truly a royal manor home open to the public. The beauty and size of the estate is almost startling on the unpretentious South Jamesport Avenue, in Jamesport, but graciousness and style envelope you from the moment you step onto the grounds. Each of the guest rooms of this 1863 Italianate style home is decorated with such exquisite detail that you can well indulge a fantasy of, if not royalty, certainly East End Society. In an atmosphere reminiscent of an era gone by, guests can relax in comfort while having state of the art amenities including wireless Internet access. Of course, there are spa services and a fitness facility, and lunch, dinner and Sunday brunch are served in the elegant dining rooms. (See also: Restaurants, Catering and Venues)

The Pridwin Hotel
Shelter Island, NY
(631) 749-0476 or (800) 273-2497
www.pridwin.com

There are very few resorts on the East End of Long Island and nowhere is there one more beautiful than The Pridwin Hotel. Located on the famous Crescent Beach on Shelter Island, this property offers guests a wide range of experiences. You can read by the pool, play a game of tennis, swim in the clear salt water, bicycle the shady twisty roads, golf, hike, kayak or kick back! The hotel is available for weddings, corporate events, and family vacations. Rooms are booked quickly in season, so be sure to make reservations early. My favorite time on Shelter Island is early fall, so be sure to ask about rates for this time of year also.

The Sound View Inn
58775 North Road (Route 48)
Greenport, NY 11944
(631) 477-1910
www.SoundViewInn.com

If you love the beach, this is the place for you! Each room overlooks the Long Island Sound and has its own private deck and beach! The rooms are decorated simply but nicely and there are suites available. Children are welcome though there are some suites that are for adults only. It has a swimming pool, tennis courts, and cocktail lounge. One of my friends always has her parents stay there as her mother is wheelchair bound and the inn is so easy to navigate for the handicapped. Parking is directly outside the rooms and there are few, if any, steps through the entire establishment. The Soundview Inn is the only real resort facility on the North Fork. Bed and Breakfasts

Bed & Breakfasts are plentiful on the East End.  Though most don't offer "hotel" amenities such as in room phones or television, they all provide the welcoming environment for which B&B's are so noted.  Some townships limit the number of rooms, so except for a few that have been "grandfathered" most have a maximum of five rooms.  Many B&B's are historic and all of them are decorated beautifully.  Breakfast, either hearty continental or formal sit-down, is always provided.  Because the B&B's are also the homes of the owners, decor and offering vary greatly, so you really should read descriptions and check out the websites.  There are stairs and there are pets! If you have never stayed in one, you are in for a treat!

Arbor View House Bed & Breakfast
8900 Main Road
P.O. Box 226
East Marion, NY 11939
(631) 477-8696
www.arborviewhouse.com

A true Victorian jewel, Arbor View House was built circa 1820 by Captain Vail when whaling was a major industry on the East End of Long Island. The historical nature of the home has been carefully maintained by innkeepers, Veda and Wilfred Joseph. With a nod to the newest industry on The North Fork, Long Island Wines, Veda and Wilfred have named their guest rooms after wine varieties such as Champagne, Merlot, and Zinfandel. This juxtaposition of the old and the new makes this charming inn the perfect location to explore the past and experience the present. The inn offers wireless internet, and whirlpool baths in a totally Victorian ambience. Spa services are available so you can have a massage in your room featuring an old fashioned red velvet headboard. Walk to the beach, sip wine in front of the fireplace, or tour the wineries after enjoying a sumptuous breakfast. This B&B is also very close to Greenport, a true harbor village, where you can ride a carousel or take a harbor cruise.

Aunt Dot's Victorian Bed & Breakfast
9625 Main Road
East Marion, NY 11939
(631) 477-5903
www.AuntDotsVictorianBandB.com

It truly will feel as though you are staying at your favorite Aunt's home when you are a guest at this B&B located near the tip of the North Fork. The three charming guest rooms have been decorated with great attention to detail with each having an old fashioned floral theme. All have private baths with two having claw foot tubs with shower and one having a stall shower. The dining room and parlor maintain the old fashioned Victorian feel also. Only minutes from the harbor village of Greenport and North Fork wineries, it is particularly well located for those arriving to the North Fork via Cross Sound Ferry. Both sandy bay beaches and LI Sound beaches are nearby and you will want to sun yourself on one of them for a bit after enjoying a full breakfast served by Aunt Dot herself.

The Bartlett House
503 Front Street
Greenport, NY 11944
(631) 477-0371
www.bartletthouseinn.com
info@bartletthouseinn.com

The Bartlett House is so gorgeous and the location is so perfect that I wish I could own the house myself! Fortunately for its guests, this uniquely large B&B is owned by Jack and Diane Gilmore who have put their hearts and souls into an extraordinary renovation project that put their stamp on this venerable property. Diane's impeccable taste has enhanced the architectural details in a manner satisfying to the purist, and her flair for showcasing Jack's collections from his world travels will satisfy the adventurer. There are ten rooms available and Diane welcomes guests with warmth and ease. The Bartlett House is one of Greenport's finest jewels. I have no doubt that in a short time this home will be listed as one of the best small hotels around in major travel magazines.

Blue Iris Bed & Breakfast
1100 Skunk Lane
Cutchogue, NY 11935
(631) 734-7126
www.BlueIrisBedandBreakfast.com

A good wager would be that absolutely no one could pull up to this gorgeous B&B and not say "Wow!"  The house sits on acres of landscaped grounds exploding with color and scents.  Vignettes suitable for a cover of Life dot the gardens and in fact you will find paintings of some of them in the house.  It will be hard to move past the wide front porch into the house, but enter you will and the wow factor continues.  A spacious hallway is flanked by the cozy parlor with books, a piano, a fireplace, and super comfy furniture and the dining room where guests gather each morning to enjoy a sumptuous breakfast.  Pride of place belongs to the caricature of owner Lorry's father, Howie Mann, band leader and drummer, drawn by Al Hirschfeld, famous NY Times caricaturist.  The guest rooms, each with large private bath, show off Lorry's decorating skill to perfection.  Showcasing your hosts desire to help you relax is the separate massage room!  Perhaps the greatest assets to this home are owners, Jerry and Lorry, who so love running a B&B and have so many fun and interesting talents, stories, and insights to share.

A Butler's Manor
244 North Main Street
Southampton, NY 11968
(631) 283-8550
www.abutlersmanor.com

A Butler's Manor: This B&B's location within walking distance of the train station and the posh village of Southampton is not the only thing to recommend it. The rooms are decorated with such a sense of balance, charm and beauty that guests not only feel privileged but welcomed and comfortable. The common rooms are cool in summer, warm in winter, and delightful all year round. You'll have a breakfast suitable for serving at the finest NYC restaurants, and perhaps topping, but certainly matching, any memories you hold of breakfasts you had at your grandmother's or that little place in France. There's an outdoor pool framed with specimen trees and bushes, a back porch covered with wisteria, a fireplace, books, and fresh flowers everywhere. Best of all, however, are the owners, Kim and Chris Allen. You will be especially comfortable in their presence, and after a weekend at their B&B, feel especially privileged to have met them.

The Coffey House Bed & Breakfast
5705 Main Road
East Marion, NY 11939
(631) 477-2107
www.thecoffeyhouse.com

A true historical house, this B&B is also spacious, fresh, and light filled. That is not an easy thing to accomplish, but owners Rick and Ellie Coffey have the talent and the will to make it happen. Wide pine floorboards are shown to perfection against the soft white lace curtains and white coverlets on antique iron headboards. A fireplace flanked by reading materials makes the living room cozy, but the view across the green lawns creates a sense of openness. The dining room also overlooks the lawns and from the looks of the kitchen and the menus I saw printed, guests will be in for a rare treat come mornings. All rooms have private baths, flat screen televisions and computer hook ups. Located in the tiny town of East Marion just a bit east of Greenport Village, this new historic B&B is a wonderful addition to the East End of Long Island.

Harbor Knoll Bed & Breakfast
425 Fourth Street
Greenport, NY 11944
(631) 477-2352
www.HarborKnoll.com

Overlooking Greenport Harbor, Harbor Knoll with its superlative landscaping and gorgeous views may well be the most elegant accommodations in North Fork Wine Country.  The old fashioned main house has five beautifully decorated guest rooms, a front porch from which you can watch the ferries pass by, and a gorgeous dining room.  A new addition to this beachfront B&B is The Enchanted Cottage which, as the name implies, is truly magical.  Complete with window boxes and rose covered arbor, it has a spacious bedroom, living room with convertible sofa, kitchen, and small enclosed porch.  Guests at the cottage may share in the sumptuous breakfasts served in the main house each morning.  Shops and restaurants are all within easy walking distance of Harbor Knoll so that guests arriving via public transportation can have a great time without having a car.

Hydrangea Farm and Gardens
Freddy's House Bed & Breakfast

1535 New Suffolk Road
Cutchogue, NY 11935
(631) 734-4180
www.HydrangeaFarmAndGardens.com

Just cause for celebration is the changes at Freddy's House Bed & Breakfast this year. Innkeepers Dan and Prudence Heston have been planting hundreds of hydrangeas, perhaps the most splendiferous of flowering shrubs, and when they are in bloom, it will be an amazing site. The exceptionally charming 1798 farmhouse has been fully restored with two guest rooms in period décor and provides an authentic and non commercial experience. Breakfast is informal, but oh so luscious with the freshest fruits and homemade jams right from the farm. If you are looking for a truly unique experience in one of the most historic homes on the East End, you really do want to stay at Freddy's House.

Orient Inn
25500 Main Road
Orient, NY 11957
(631) 323-2300
www.OrientInn-NY.com

This B&B has found its true essence through the talent and vision of its new owners. It reminds me of a beautiful chest of drawers that had been painted, but now is stripped down to its original wood and beauty. Joan, Karen and Howard saw the beauty of the architectural details at their new home and through their delightfully light touches, allowed them to stand for themselves. Since there are five rooms available, it is a wonderful choice for bridal parties as all can stay together. Every thing here is tended with great attention to detail and guests benefit from the owners' caring natures. (See Caterers/Event Planners and Activities)

The Red Barn
733 Herricks Lane
Jamesport, NY 11947
(631) 722-3695
www.redbarnbandb.com

The simple beauty of this true farmhouse is seen not only in the wrap around porch and country kitchen, but also in all the small touches: a bunch of wildflowers in a royal blue pitcher - an antique quilt displayed on a wall. The rooms have the perfect juxtaposition of creativity and authenticity. Its views are of farms and vineyards, its scents are of wildflowers and grapes. Its feeling is timelessness. Round the corner to find historic farms, green fields with horses grazing, and working vineyards. This is the North Fork as it once was and in some places, still is.

Seatuck Cove House
61 South Bay Avenue
Eastport, New York 11941
(631) 325-3300
www.seatuckcovehouse.com

When I visited Seatuck Cove House, one of my favorite quotations came to mind: Those who contemplate the beauty of the earth find reserves of strength that will endure as long as life lasts. Rachel Carson. Indeed, this is a place to contemplate beauty. The views from every room are stupendous and no visitor can fail to feel a sense of calmness. The décor of the inn seems an extension of nature's beauty outside: clear, clean, and open, but with little nooks and crannies perfect for reading, dreaming, or chatting. Don't be misled so as to think Seatuck Cove House is quiet all of the time! There is lively chatter in the bright and sunny kitchen, laughter in the recreation room, and perhaps even a few grunts in fully equipped exercise room! The Seatuck Cove House is perfectly situated so that guests can easily enjoy the beauties of both the Hamptons and LI Wine Country.

Shorecrest Bed & Breakfast
54300 Route 48
Southold, NY 11971
(631) 765-1570
www.Northfork.com/Shorecrest/

Shorecrest Bed and Breakfast is the only B&B that has views of Long Island Sound. From its delightfully comfortable sitting room, guests can view some of the most beautiful sunsets or walk to the beach on Shorecrest's private path to the beach. The new owners of this venerable property have done an extraordinary job on the grounds and in the interior. While still maintaining the romantic feeling, the home is also now bright and airy. If you have visited this B&B in the past, you will be delighted at the changes and if you have never seen it at all, you are in for a real treat!

Vintage Bed & Breakfast
580 Skunk Lane
Cutchogue, NY 11935
(631) 734-2053
www.NorthFork.com/VintageBnB/

Guests of Vintage Bed & Breakfast are enveloped in the romance and beauty of wine country. Each of its three exquisite guest rooms represent one of the many wine varietals produced out east, and each is as lovingly tended as the vines that produce its namesake varietal: merlot, zinfandel, and chardonnay. The Genovese family has its own vineyards right on the property and Jeanne Genovese will gladly offer you samplings of her family's own vintage. Jeanne also prepares the sumptuous multi course breakfasts offered in the Italianate dining room or al fresco. Both in actuality and in spirit, you can't get more central to LI Wine Country than this lovely B&B. The owners provide impeccable services so that your escape to the North Fork is not just a jaunt, but a journey.
